I would never recommend them to anyone for that reason alone. Their customer service absolutely destroyed them for me. I then sent an email to the email address listed in the Paypal dispute, and it was only after I finally messaged them on Facebook and stated that I would post negative reviews that I got any response from anyone at all. I had to open a dispute with Paypal, at which point it seems TickTick lied to Paypal because they closed my dispute saying that TickTick had issued the refund. Well after the 14-day window passed, they had not opened my emails or responded in any way. They offer a 14-day refund policy, so since I was within the 14 day window, I followed their steps to request a refund. However, I still felt it was useful for others and would have happily recommended it to others. In the end, I decided the software wasn't for me. There’s more space, larger sections of land, affordable houses, plenty of time to spend with family. “The biggest relief about moving to Taranaki is that we’re in a better financial position. It’s a crucial time to make that connection and build that relationship with her,” Charlotte says. We definitely have more quality time as a family now, which is great while Flo is young. You need to work longer hours too, to pay for the higher living costs. “It’s not just about the time it takes to get places. Living in Auckland, the family found themselves “time-poor”. Even though my daily schedule managed to dodge the worst of the traffic, I definitely don’t miss Auckland motorways,” says Hayden. Unless there’s a tractor on the road – then it’s 16 minutes. Living in idyllic Ōakura means a short commute to work for the pair. The community has the perfect combo of lots of interesting people, great cafés and a world-class beach.” In fact, a lifestyle change for Hayden since moving to Taranaki is that he now 'goes through a lot more surfboards!' They’re all amazing facilities!”Īnd if they’re not pounding the pavement (or the pebbles, as the case may be in Pukekura Park), the family is at the beach. Hayden agrees, “Our favourite places to take Flo are the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre, the Te Henui Walkway and Brooklands Zoo. And Flo loves the Festival of the Lights, which is on during the summer months every year,” Charlotte says. We love to run through it, it’s right in the centre of town, and there are so many bush tracks. “We love the Coastal Walkway! And Pukekura Park is, in my opinion, one of our country’s best parks. As keen runners, Hayden and Charlotte are effusive about the endless options of local locations to be out and about – either for their daily run, or to take four-year-old daughter Flo out for an adventure. Although, Hayden admits that his perception of Taranaki prior to living here was already cemented as 'a creative place that has a great balance of outdoors life and career opportunities'.Īs well as the drawcard of living close to family, the outdoor lifestyle that is synonymous with Taranaki was also a huge pull for the athletic family. Both were pleasantly surprised at the ease with which they found their jobs and took it as confirmation that they had made the right decision. Likewise, Hayden managed to find his job 'through a connection with a family member' as a marketing consultant for local brand and marketing agency, Strategy Collective. It does help to build those connections.” I took a chance on a connection I had made in the industry, and that helped me to get a job here. “Fortunately, I had built up experience in my specialty area in Auckland. He tells them that the crew members will speak English again but not in the police's presence. He shows them the cabin and possessions of two crew members who jumped ship. He believed that they may have been gambling, but Bunk thinks that they may have been spending it on the girls. The first mate is more forthcoming and admits that many of the crew asked for pay advances during the trip. Frustrated, Bunk and Freamon lose their temper with the ship's lone black seaman (whom Bunk calls Kunta Kinte). The dwindling efficacy of The International Brotherhood of Stevedores makes this an example of verbal irony.ĭetectives Bunk Moreland and Lester Freamon interview the crew of the Atlantic Light, but they all refuse to speak English responding in French, Arabic, Hindi, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Vietnamese amongst other languages. Oh, and for the record: season three > season four > season one > season two > season five.Officer Russell makes this dry observation about prostitutes. But for someone with Snowden's beliefs about the war on terror and the security state that was built to prosecute it, season two has a lot to like. (For why this argument may not hold up, see Conor Friedersdorf.) So he probably doesn't buy into this reading of his work. I'd think that's a critique that would resonate with Snowden.įor what it's worth, Simon appears to think terrorism is a more significant threat than Snowden does, and has been critical of Snowden and other critics of NSA surveillance, noting that metadata collection has been a staple of police departments for decades. "Bathtub falls and police officers kill more Americans than terrorism," Snowden once noted, "yet we've been asked to sacrifice our most sacred rights for fear of falling victim to it." You can view season two of The Wire as making a closely related point: we've sacrificed our ability to pursue the people responsible for the deaths of 14 women because our federal government is overly focused on preventing terrorism. Maybe the tips the Greek provided the FBI prevented terrorist attacks with a greater death toll than that he himself has amassed. It's about getting justice for those 14 women. While Simon makes clear in the show (and his writings elsewhere) that he views the war on drugs as a horrible and destructive waste of time and resources, the investigation into the Greek's operations isn't about drugs, ultimately. FBI agent Terry Fitzhugh (Doug Olear), who's working on the docks case with the Baltimore PD, calls Koutris one of the "9/11 boys in DC…I'm guessing Vondopoulos or The Greek was an asset to them." When critic Alan Sepinwall asked show creator David Simon about Koutris, Simon told him the agent "genuinely thought The Greek was helping him nab terrorists, and if that meant looking the other way on other crimes, even warning him about impending arrest, then that was a trade-off he was willing to make to fight The War on Terror." Of course, there are legal limits to what one can do to help informants, but an inspector general's report in 2005 found that violations of those rules are very common. Rather, the Greek himself is an informant who's helping the FBI combat terrorism, and Koutris helps him out in exchange for that assistance. The show implies that Koutris' tip-off isn't due to corruption, necessarily. The Greek and Vondas kill Sobotka and the case unravels from there. Just when union head Frank Sobotka (Chris Bauer) is convinced to help the police take down the Greek and Vondas, the group receives a tip-off from FBI agent Kristos Koutris (Tom Mardirosian) that Sobotka has become an informant. A police detail is formed after 13 women are found suffocated to death in one of the Greek's shipping containers, and the body of another woman from the same boat is found tossed overboard. It's run by a shadowy figure known only as "the Greek" (Bill Raymond) and his lieutenant Spiros Vondas (Paul Ben-Victor) and works with the Baltimore dockworkers' union to smuggle drugs, stolen goods, and women into the US. But the end of the season can be read as a critique of the war on terror - a critique that closely resembles ones Snowden himself has made.Īs fans will recall (lots of spoilers to come for people who haven't seen the series yet, obviously), the main investigation in season two centered on a Greek criminal syndicate. Edward Snowden's diss of season two of The Wire (while he's "really enjoying" the show overall, he thinks season two is "not so great") isn't by any reasonable standard one of the more important things to come out of his interview with Brian Williams. I switched to Gmail in 2004 when it first launched, and I finally switched to Mac in 2005 when I got my first Mac (a Powerbook G4). I switched to Mailblocks around 2002 (it was eventually acquired by AOL). I stuck with AOL until I got an account when my parents first got high-speed Internet. I got my first email account in the mid–90s (When it was still $2.95 per hour for AOL). So what’s the best email app for the Mac? Even with the popularity of web-based services like Gmail, many still prefer a desktop app to pull in multiple email addresses, use desktop plugins, and have a more native Mac experience. Signing up for almost any service on the Internet requires an email address, so it’s a universal digital identifier. Signing into iCloud (and email) is one of my first tasks when setting up a new Mac. It's a good idea to keep it tucked away in a safe place.Īfter you turn on two-step verification and create an app password, continue with the IMAP migration in the Microsoft 365 admin center.Despite all the new messaging services, project management tools, and chat-based ecosystems, email remains essential. Whenever you sign in to your email account from a new device or location, look at your Microsoft Authenticator app and sign in using latest app password that's been sent to you instead of using your old static password. You don't need to memorize this password it changes constantly and a new one is sent to you via the Microsoft Authenticator app. In step 4 on the Set up an authenticator app page, type the six-digit code that's displayed on your mobile device (for example, 555111 you don't need to include any spaces). Scan the code on the Set up an authenticator app page. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, and choose +. Microsoft Authenticator app is available for Android or iOS. On your mobile device, download the Microsoft Authenticator from your app store. This is also the app password you or your admin will use to migrate your or email to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 for business. Turn on two-step verification and create an app password in or If your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 admin is moving email messages from your or account to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 on your behalf, you'll need to give them your app password. When you sign in on a new device or from a new location, we'll send you a security code that you enter on the sign-in page as a second form of authentication in addition to your password.Īfter you have setup two-step verification, you can also obtain an app password that you will have to use in order to use Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) migration to copy email from your or account to your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 for business account. You set up two-step verification with an email address, phone number, or authenticator app. Even if someone else finds your password, they'll be stopped if they don't have access to your other devices or accounts. It uses two different forms of identity: your password, and a contact method. Two-step verification helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your email account. If you are migrating your or account to Microsoft 365 or Office 365, you'll need to enable two-step verification (also known as two-factor authentication).
